Emma Stone has finally confirmed that her ex-boyfriend and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ co-star Andrew Garfield completely fooled her about his secret return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.

During a chat on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast with her ‘Bugonia’ co-star Jesse Plemons, Stone opened up about the funny incident. The host, Josh Horowitz, reminded her about how Garfield once admitted to lying to everyone including her to protect his Marvel secret.

Stone laughed as she remembered how confused she was at the time. “I asked him if he was going to be in that movie, and he was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’” she said. “So, I thought, okay, maybe that means no. But it wasn’t no. It was yes!”

Horowitz joked that Garfield’s secrecy showed “real dedication,” and Stone agreed, saying, “Good for him. He kept it really close to the vest.”

Back in 2022, Garfield had already revealed that he’d gone to extreme lengths to keep his cameo under wraps. On the same podcast, he shared that Stone kept texting him, trying to find out the truth. “Emma kept on asking me, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’” he said. “And I kept replying, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’”

When she finally saw him appear on screen, her reaction was priceless. “She was like, ‘You’re a jerk,’” Garfield recalled, laughing.

The two actors first met while filming ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ in 2012, playing one of cinema’s most beloved superhero couples: Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. Their on-screen chemistry quickly turned into a real-life romance and they dated for about four years before splitting up in 2015. Despite the breakup, they’ve remained close friends and continue to speak fondly of each other.

These days, their lives have taken different paths. Emma Stone is married to writer and director Dave McCary, best known for his work on ‘Saturday Night Live’. The couple shares a daughter, Louise Jean, who is now four years old. Garfield, meanwhile, is dating actress Monica Barbaro who stars in the upcoming film ‘A Complete Unknown’.
